‘What Know’, de Lee Morgan
What Know, Lee Morgan’s original, marks one of those increasingly prevalent uses of a compelling melodic device – the pick-up phrase that’s longer than what it leads into. Here we have a theme built mainly around phrases that open with a three – or four-note pick-up, lasting generally for two and a half beats, and close with two notes on the first beat of the following measure. It’s an attractive effect, used here most engagingly in the minor mode. Timmons’s chorded passage stands out in a series of brilliant solos. The side closes with a flash of the theme, long enough to afford a solo glimpse of Timmons and Pee-Wee’s disclosure that we have been listening to the Soul Brothers. Via Blue Note.

‘Song for Sathima’, de Abdullah Ibrahim
Gravado originalmente para o álbum Water From an Ancient Well de 1992, o tema Song for Sathima, dedicado à mulher de Abdullah Ibrahim, falecida em 2013, conheceu um novo arranjo para o último álbum The Balance, editado há dias pela Gearbox Records.
Destaque para o sax alto de Cleave E. Guyton.

Welcome to Chick Corea’s brand new Spanish Heart Band, the flamenco-charged eight-man band of Latin rhythm masters. Since he first played with the Spanish Flamenco guitar legend Paco de Lucia, Chick has built a deep catalog of Latin jazz brilliance, beginning with his modern-classic song “Spain,” and the world-groove inspired first Return to Forever album, featuring “Sometime Ago / La Fiesta.” Madrid’s own Jorge Pardo, an original member of Paco’s band, joins Corea on sax and flute, and Niño Josele, who played in Paco’s band in the last years, brings flamenco guitar artistry. Michael Rodriguez on trumpet and Steve Davis on trombone form one of the great modern front lines on horns. Corea’s unstoppable rhythm section — Cuban master Carlitos Del Puerto on bass and drum master of all rhythms Marcus Gilmore — provide the backbone.

De Jacobus Gallus, também conhecido como Jacob Handl, compositor renascentista de música sacra nascido na actual Eslovénia [3 Julho 1550 – 18 Julho 1591], o motete Mirabile Mysterium, extraído do livro Opus musicum.

‘Premonitions: The Charisma Recordings 1975-1983’, de Steve Hackett
Em 1 Julho 2015, o pioneiro do Prog-Rock Steve Hackett anunciou o lançamento de “Premonitions – The Charisma Recordings 1975-1983”, um ambicioso projecto de reedição que integrava os seus primeiros seis álbuns editados pela Charisma, incluindo um conjunto de remixes de Steven Wilson.
‘Premonitions’ chegou às prateleiras a 23 Outubro 2015, em edição da Universal Music / Virgin.
Dos 135 temas distribuídos na Set Box de 10 cds, destacar um é apenas uma opção pessoal, por isso fica o tema remasterizado Shadow Of The Hierophant, composto com Mike Rutherford (ainda nos Genesis), do primeiro álbum a solo de Hackett Voyage of the Acolyte (1975), gravado originalmente com a voz de Sally Oldfield.
‘Fish Out of Water’, de Chris Squire
De Chris Squire [4 Mar 1948 – 27 Jun 2015], compositor, membro fundador dos YES e um dos mais notáveis baixistas da segunda metade do século XX, ‘Hold Out Your Hand’ o tema de abertura do seu primeiro álbum a solo ‘Fish Out of Water’, de 1975.
‘The Milagro Beanfield War’, de Dave Grusin
Conheci a música de Dave Grusin através do tema Early A.M. Attitude, que faz parte do álbum Harlequin de 1985, em parceria com Lee Ritenour. Na altura, ouvia John Scofield, Jaco Pastorius, Al Di Meola e John McLaughlin.
Sendo um compositor da área do jazz, foi através das composições para cinema que Dave Grusin, nascido neste dia 26 de Junho em 1934, conseguiu maior notoriedade, com The Graduate (1967), On Golden Pond (1981), Tootsie (1982) e The Goonies (1985). Em 1989, conquistou o óscar de melhor música original com The Milagro Beanfield War (1988)
