Este conjunto de litografias de Paula Rêgo inspira-se na obra Jane Eyre, An Autobiography, escrita por Charlotte Brontë, e a sua narrativa revela uma concepção de um feminismo interior violento.
O drama psicológico nas suas gravuras é alimentado, por um lado, pelo grito de revolta das suas paisagens mentais libertadoras e por outro pela realidade social, sombria e lúgubre.
